GAZA, (PIC)-- The Palestinian ministry of prisoners’ affairs stated Saturday that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) kidnapped more than 250 Palestinians including 30children under age 14 during the current Intifada (uprising) which broke out in defense of the Aqsa Mosque.
The ministry’s information office said that most of detainees were from the areas of Issawiya, Wadi Joz and Sawwanah and few of them were released on bail while many others would be detained for several days.
The office added that all the Palestinians who were taken prisoners during the recent clashes were maltreated, humiliated and severely beaten during detention.
It pointed that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) imposed house arrest on a number of Jerusalemites and prevented them from leaving their homes, while an Israeli court in Jerusalem issued a decision banishing 15 detainees from the vicinity of the Old City and the Aqsa Mosque.
The office affirmed that the IOA used extensively Arabized undercover units that rounded up many Palestinian young men during their pretending involvement in the protests.
In a new related development, the IOF troops at the military checkpoint established at the entrance of Shuafat refugee camp on Saturday evening barred Palestinian cars and vehicles from traveling from and into the camp.
This came after a day of fierce confrontations between Palestinian young men and Israeli troops, which is considered the most violent since last Tuesday.
In another incident, local sources reported that Israeli settlers set fire to a number of vehicles belonging to Palestinians in Jerusalem.
The sources added that the settlers burned several cars as they were parked on streets in different areas of Jerusalem especially in the neighborhoods of Ras Al-Amud and Wadi Al-Joz, and the streets of Salahuddin and Sultan Suleiman.
